The short answer

Wear comfortable clothes you can move in, arrive about ten minutes early, and bring the items on the what-to-bring list. The most useful preparation is thinking through your own story: when the problem started, what it stops you from doing, and what you have already tried.

Checklist

  • Comfortable, flexible clothing; avoid stiff jeans or restrictive skirts.
  • Arrive about ten minutes before your appointment time.
  • Photo ID and insurance card if you have one.
  • A list of current medications and any recent imaging reports you have.
  • Notes on your history: when it started, how it behaves, what helps, what you have tried.
  • Two or three questions you want answered before any treatment.

Questions worth writing down

  • What did the examination show, and what does it rule out?
  • What are my options, including options other than chiropractic care?
  • What will this cost, and what does my insurance cover?
  • How will we know whether care is working, and by when?
